Andrea E. Nieto is an associate in the firm’s South Florida office who focuses her practice on complex civil litigation including life and disability insurance litigation involving suspected insurance fraud, ERISA, class actions, and securities litigation.
After working for independent insurance agents in Florida selling auto, life, health, and property insurance, Andrea returned to law school graduating magna cum laude from the University of Florida. In order to represent clients nationwide, Andrea sat for and passed bar exams in four different states during her first four years of practice. She is currently licensed to practice in Florida, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Arizona, the Middle and Southern Districts of Florida, the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Georgia, and the Northern District of Ohio.
She began her practice as a trial attorney for a nationwide firm in Tampa, Florida litigating cases in multiple states. One of her notable achievements was a $3.5 million jury verdict for her clients in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. For the two years prior to joining McDowell Hetherington LLP, she served as law clerk to The Honorable James D. Whittemore of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida gaining invaluable experience in federal court.
As an undergraduate and after serving in various leadership roles at University of Florida, Andrea was selected for membership into Florida Blue Key, the oldest and most prestigious leadership honorary in the state of Florida. As a law student, Andrea was a member of the UF Trial Team and the Journal of Law and Public Policy.
In the past, Andrea has been a member of the Craig S. Barnard American Inn of Court and a mentor to a UF law student. Currently, Andrea serves on the Federal Court Practice Committee of The Florida Bar and is a national volunteer for the Nancy Walton Laurie Leadership Institute of Chi Omega. As a national volunteer, Andrea travels nationwide to provide leadership training and education for women to foster personal growth and to prepare them to serve the world. She has co-facilitated workshops at Chi Omega chapters in Wisconsin, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Oklahoma. And, she has co-facilitated weekend leadership workshops in Memphis, Tennessee for collegiate and alumnae women from around the country.
