Ivan F. Morales is an associate in the firm’s Houston office. Ivan’s practice focuses on complex commercial litigation across a variety of areas.
Before joining McDowell Hetherington, Ivan served as a Deputy District Attorney in Multnomah County, the largest prosecutorial office in Oregon. Handling a large caseload of misdemeanors and felonies, Ivan served as the sole prosecutor on dozens of dispositive hearings and was first-chair on numerous trials—prosecuting cases from voir dire to verdict. During his time in Portland, Ivan gained extensive court-room experience and completed an Environmental LLM at Lewis and Clark Law School.
Ivan graduated from the University of Houston Law Center in May 2017, where he served as a Notes and Comments Editor on the Houston Journal of Health Law and Policy. Ivan’s comment was published in the Journal’s Summer 2017 issue. As a member of UHLC’s Moot Court team, he won the Blakely Butler Moot Court Competition. During law school, Ivan also interned at both Union Pacific Railroad and the Port of Portland, where he assisted on matters ranging from environmental compliance to employment disputes. Ivan earned his bachelor’s degree from Emory University.
Outside the office, Ivan can be found planning road trips to Texas’s wine country, crafting coffee concoctions, listening to audiobooks, or playing board games with his wife.
