Jhenell Matthews-Allison is an associate attorney in the firm's Boca Raton, Florida office. She focuses her practice on complex civil litigation, including: property, causality, health, and disability insurance defense. Jhenell graduated from DePaul University College of Law in 2016 and was admitted to practice law in Illinois that same year. She received two CALI Excellence Awards for her superior skills in the Litigation Laboratory Clinic and Non-Profit Associations courses. She also studied law abroad in Costa Rica and Cuba and increased her Spanish fluency by living with host families. Notably, Jhenell was a judicial intern for the Honorable Judge Matthew F. Kennelly of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Judge Kennelly personally swore Jhenell in to become a licensed attorney after she passed the Florida Bar Exam in 2018. Jhenell began her legal career at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in Chicago, Illinois. She was instrumental in enforcing the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules by helping covered entities become HIPAA compliant and avoid millions of dollars in fines. She was also a speaker at various events focused on teaching the HIPAA requirements to healthcare workers and attorneys. After moving to Florida in 2018, Jhenell became an associate attorney at an established litigation defense firm in Coral Gables. She focused her litigation practice on first-party property insurance and subrogation defense, representing large insurance carriers and homeowners associations. Outside of the office, Jhenell enjoys researching the benefits of essential oils and creating unique mixtures to aid the wellness of herself and others. She is also an adventure enthusiast who loves zip lining, river rafting, skydiving, and raised obstacle courses.
