Matthew Caldwell is a litigator in the firm’s Houston office. Matthew’s practice includes a wide variety of complex commercial litigation matters throughout the country from California to New York and many places in between. Matthew has experience representing clients in fraud, breach of contract, trade secret, non-compete, whistleblower, tax, and employment cases. Matthew has significant experience counseling clients at every stage of litigation, including developing cost-effective litigation strategies, navigating discovery disputes, negotiating favorable settlements, and representing clients in court and in administrative proceedings. Matthew is also very skilled in conducting investigations, both internal and external, to determine the circumstances surrounding claims.
During his last semester of law school at the University of Michigan Law School, Matthew worked full-time as a prosecutor for the Major Drug Unit of the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, which is the busiest prosecutor’s office in the State of Michigan. Prior to attending law school, Matthew worked for several years in the financial services industry. Specifically, Matthew conducted fraud investigations and worked in underwriting for several national insurance companies. Matthew also served in the United States Marine Corps, from which he was honorably discharged due to injuries he sustained in combat.
Outside the office, Matthew will be found wearing some sort of University of Michigan apparel, most likely on the golf course. When he is not golfing, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children as they play board games, prepare and cook meals together, or travel.
