Emily Freeman supports commercial trial teams and appellate counsel in complex litigation.
Emily is an attorney located in the firm’s Houston office. Her practice focuses on civil and commercial trial support and appellate matters in both state and federal courts. She has represented clients across a broad range of disputes, including complex commercial litigation, products liability and premises liability claims, personal injury matters, and insurance defense. Emily regularly supports trial teams at all stages of litigation, providing strategic appellate insight both before and after judgment. She also has substantial appellate experience, having briefed matters before multiple Texas courts of appeals and the Texas Supreme Court.
Prior to joining McDowell Hetherington, Emily was an associate at a boutique Houston appellate firm, where she provided appellate support to litigators throughout Texas and gained significant trial experience. She also served as an interim staff attorney at the First Court of Appeals, where she evaluated and drafted opinions in complex appeals and original proceedings.
Emily earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from the University of Houston and her J.D. from South Texas College of Law. She worked in the legal field throughout her undergraduate and legal education, including volunteering with several legal aid organizations and clinics.
Outside the office, Emily enjoys spending time with her husband, a Houston firefighter, and their young daughter. She also enjoys weightlifting and walking the family’s two oversized dogs around the neighborhood.
