Our Story

The firm was founded in 2009 by Andrew M. Edison, David T. McDowell, and Thomas F. A. Hetherington, three highly regarded Texas trial attorneys. For many law firms, the 2008 financial crisis and subsequent economic downturn made 2009 a difficult year. Our firm, however, embraced the changing dynamics of the legal market, focused on providing exceptional representation to our clients, and thrived as a result. Founded on that core belief – serving our clients through top-quality litigation and trial services – McDowell Hetherington established itself as a national trial firm with depth in the energy, insurance, and financial services sectors.

Over the last fifteen years, much has changed. In 2013, we opened an office in Northern California; in 2016, we expanded into Florida; and in January 2018, the firm was renamed McDowell Hetherington. We have grown from eight to nearly seventy attorneys in four offices that span the country. Our attorneys handle complex cases throughout the United States in virtually every area of business and the law. As we have evolved, one element has remained constant: our attorneys’ commitment to client service through excellent legal representation.

We are litigation specialists.  While other firms have reached our size by offering various services, we have reached it by doing one thing well: civil litigation.

Our team has served as lead counsel in complex actions across the country in state and federal trial courts, arbitrations, and appeals. We have extensive experience in commercial litigation, class action litigation, RICO, antitrust actions, consumer protection, product liability, and high stakes arbitrations. Our attorneys have successfully handled cases across the United States in virtually every area of business and law.

With offices in three time zones, we staff cases efficiently and strategically – balancing our attorney experience and venue specific knowledge.
