Pro Bono
McDowell Hetherington attorneys, paralegals, and staff take pride in dedicating pro bono time and resources to underserved members of our communities.
Our pro bono efforts have ranged from staffing the Houston Volunteer Lawyers’ Legal Advice Clinic, to establishing McDowell Hetherington’s eviction defense docket during the COVID-19 pandemic, to participating as a member firm in the groundbreaking Law Firm Antiracism Alliance (LFAA). We are an Equal Access to Justice Champion.
We value our attorneys applying their legal skills to a range of important matters in our communities. This work also provides our attorneys – especially our younger attorneys – with valuable exposure. With oversight from more senior attorneys, these matters can give young attorneys valuable, early experience, and are an avenue to engage with other attorneys outside of our firm.
McDowell Hetherington attorneys have handled a variety of pro bono matters, including those related to:
- Family Law
- Eviction Defense
- Civil Rights
- Criminal Defense
- Immigration
- Veterans’ Affairs
- Education Access
- Land Rights
Community Involvement
In addition to these pro bono efforts, our firm participates in a range of firmwide community projects, from sponsoring annual holiday toy drives to working shifts at Kids’ Meals – a local organization that provides lunches to underserved children in the Houston community. Many individual MH attorneys also actively participate in various community organizations and charity initiatives on their own.
