Energy Litigation

MH was founded in Houston, the energy capital of the world and home to the nation’s leading energy companies. We have been privileged to represent many of those companies in a diverse range of complex disputes.

Our reach extends far beyond the Texas oilfields and refineries—to cases involving cross-country pipelines and wholesale energy trading, power generation and transmission across the national grid, petrochemical innovation and supply, solar energy systems and wind farms, retail electricity and natural gas markets, and many related services. We have handled these matters in courts and before arbitration panels across the country.

MH’s work for oil and gas clients, whose operations range from exploration and production to transport, refining, trading, and sales, provides us with an understanding of the links in that energy chain that is both specialized and big-picture.

MH’s experience in retail electricity and natural gas litigation also is as deep as any firm’s. Since our founding in 2009, we have represented retail energy providers in hundreds of matters and in more than thirty states. We are familiar with the business and market considerations as well as the cost components that influence energy pricing decisions, natural gas markets, the way electricity and natural gas supply needs are hedged through forward purchases and balanced in ISO spot markets, and the regulatory frameworks within which our clients operate.

This industry knowledge enables us to make the best available arguments, identify relevant expert witnesses, and avoid burdening our energy clients with basic background questions. Our experience and versatility also allow clients to turn to us on cases anywhere in the country when trial lawyers are needed. For those reasons, we have frequently been hired to handle high-stakes commercial disputes, dozens of consumer class actions, and appeals before state and federal courts that have led to precedent-setting outcomes in the energy space.
