After being with us as a 2020 Summer Associate, Clarissa returns to McDowell Hetherington as an associate after graduating magna cum laude from the University of Alabama. While at Alabama, she served as an editor of the Alabama Law Review. She also assisted the team of legal writing professors with research and worked with Professor Fred Vars in researching material for various articles and a book he coauthored entitled Weapon of Choice: Fighting Gun Violence While Respecting Gun Rights. During her third year, she participated in the law school clinic program and served as President of the Public Interest Student Board.

Clarissa spent her summers working with the Alabama Disabilities Advocacy Program and the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the Northern District of Alabama in addition to her clerkship at MH.

After law school, Clarissa worked for one year as a term clerk with the Honorable L. Scott Coogler, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

Clarissa and her husband, James, have a German Shepherd and two cats. They are avid sports fans, and they enjoy traveling and attending hot air balloon festivals with friends.
